In February 2010, Tom Greenall and Jordan Hodgson were commissioned by Jane Withers to produce a desktop study for Le Beauvallon, a landmark belle-époque hotel on the bay of Saint-Tropez, currently under going total renovation.
This was to be an architectural appraisal of the existing hotel based recent photographs and archive material provided by the client, Parkview International.
The report provided an exciting opportunity to study an ‘unparalleled’ Riviera icon and to provide ideas for the approach to its refurbishment. Le Beauvallon has been an important cultural destination since its completion in 1913, and is set to increase in significance under the ownership of Parkview International. With designs by the likes of Ron Arad, Abe Rogers and Keiichi Tahara planned to complement the recent relocation of Toyo Ito’s 2002 Serpentine Pavilion, the hotel will receive international recognition. Our report examined how the existing palace hotel can be refurbished to embody its contemporary ambitions whilst respecting its Belle Époque heritage.
